Financial Controller - Maternity cover
About you:
We are looking for a strategic thinker with a strong financial acumen and a proven track record of driving performance through insight, accuracy, and leadership. You have a deep understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and compliance, with the ability to translate numbers into clear business actions.
As a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA), you bring experience in managing finance functions and working closely with senior leadership to support decision-making. You're confident leading a team, implementing process improvements, and ensuring robust financial controls are in place.
You thrive in a dynamic environment, balancing attention to detail with big-picture thinking. Your communication skills are excellent, and you're comfortable working cross-functionally to deliver results that support sustainable growth.
This is maternity cover, 12 month fixed term contract.
The role:
- Work closely with the CFO to provide financial information and analysis to aid understanding of company performance
- Manage the preparation of financial monthly, quarterly, and annual accounts
- Prepare monthly analysis across all departments and advise department managers on project profitability, and employee utilisation
- Oversee accounts receivable and payable, monitoring cash flows to ensure the company meets its short-term obligations and optimises investments.
- Ensure accounting distributions are accurate, and all monies are accounted for properly
- Oversee the disbursement of cash and manage payroll activities and bank settlements
- Finance, planning and reporting bank and fiancé functions, including reviewing financial contracts and negotiating credit agreements or new financial terms.
- Managing the Finance team to maintain accurate checks and balances.
- Ensure financial reports are delivered, accurately and on time.
- Ensure the company complies with local laws and regulations and ensures the Company adheres to all statutory requirements, to all industry regulations to avoid fines and penalties.
- Develop and implement financial policies and processes and controls to ensure company governance
- Lead on annual audit process and statutory compliance including CT, VAT and PAYE.
Skills / Experience:
- Excellent knowledge Best Practice in financial procedures
- Knowledge of SAGE Intacct financial system is highly preferred
- Advanced/intermediate user of Excel and Microsoft suite
- Solid experience in managing a medium sized team
- Excellent communication skills and ability to relay information to the accounting team or Senior Management teams
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
- Proven experience of producing management information
- Ability to prioritise workloads effectively to meet
deadline
Qualifications:
- ACCA / ACA / CIMA qualified
- NVQ Levels 2,3 and 4 in Accounting
